Casting cloaks - A prophetic act

When Jesus was riding into Jerusalem on a donkey, was it not only the fulfillment of Zechariah 9:9. It was also a release of the prophetic picture “Casting cloaks”, that means totally surrender.

In Matthew 5.40 Jesus tells that if anyone wants to sue them and take there tunic, they shall also give them there cloak. To understand this we have to know that the cloak was the outer-garment, the only garment that couldn't be take from you by law. But still Jesus says that they shall give it all up.

What the people of Jerusalem did was to surrender to Jesus, they lied there cloaks down for Him, the most important thing they were wearing. We also find this when Jesus healed Bartimaeus in Mark 10.46, Bartimaeus sat by the road begging. And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” And Jesus had, he called him down, and Bartimaeus throw'ed aside his cloak in total surrender. And Jesus asked: What can I do for you? He gave him his sight back, and Bartimaeus followed Jesus on the road. (Without getting his garment)

Jesus also said in Luc 9.23, that if anyone desired to come after Him, they had to deny them self, and take up there cross daily. This is for us, what is your cross? What do you have to put on the cross? What do you have to deny? What is your cloak? Is it TV? Computer-games? Magazines? Sports that owns you? In order to live the real life of a Jesus-follower, we have to give up everything that WE think is important. When the real stuff is intimacy with Jesus. If you don't have or begin to have a relationship with Him, you will be sitting by the road when Jesus is going by, still blind.

Peace!
